All games, including casino card games, have not only rules but also special terminology. That is why new players need to learn all the terms like blackjack push, bust, split, and hit. So what does push in blackjack means?

How to Win in Blackjack

Players need to beat the dealer, namely, get the higher scores to win in a black game. Blackjack is also called the game of 21, and players aim to reach this score or at least get to it as close as possible.

The playing round starts when the players place the bets, and the croupier deals 2 cards to all the participants. Players should choose what they will do next based on the value of their cards:

  • Hit: in this case, players pick up another card
  • Stand: players rely on the value of cards they got from the start
  • Double Down: gamblers pick up one more card, and add one more bet to equal the primal bet
  • Split: Players can form two hands if they have a pair of cards that have the same value

Players who draw a card, and get more than 21 values in total as a result, it means they lose their stakes and they go “bust”. Dealers play their hand after the rest of the players have played theirs. If the dealer has crossed the 21 points in total he automatically becomes a loser, and the players who have remained are the winners. If the dealer is still in the game, the player with the highest score wins.

And finally, if the player and the dealer have the same score, push occurs, and the player gets his stake back.

When Does Blackjack Push Occur?

The term “push” is referred to many betting games nowadays. It occurs if the player doesn’t win and doesn’t lose a bet. However, the original term appeared in blackjack.

When the dealer ends his hand with the same number of points as the player the blackjack push occurs. There are some rules of blackjack push:

  1. The total point can not be lower than 17, because, in this case, the dealer needs to draw one more card.
  2. The total point can not exceed 21, because, in this case, the dealer or the player busts

The blackjack push has quite an interesting history. Many years ago dealers pushed the bets of the players back to them if a tie appears. But this action slowed down the game and surprised newbies. That is why dealers don’t “push” but tap on the layout near the bet nowadays. It means that players didn’t play a winning bet, and don’t take away a losing bet. But players and dealers still use the term blackjack push.
